Michael Herring was born in the U.S.A. Upon returning to the U.S. he began a career as an illustrator. His realistic style enabled him to work with all the major New York Publishing and Advertising Houses While living and working in New York City for 15 years, he met his wife, Betsy French. They ended up collaborating together and ran the French Herring Illustration studio for over 25 years, first in New York and then in California. These past few years they have been travelling around Japan.
